CellAED Enters Voluntary Administration - what does this mean if you own a CellAED?

CellAED Manufacturer Rapid Response Revival Enters Administration

Pulse Defibs wishes to inform customers and the wider community that Rapid Response Revival, the manufacturer of the CellAED® portable defibrillator, has entered voluntary administration.

This development creates uncertainty around the availability of new CellAED units. More importantly, it appears there will be no ongoing support for devices that have already been purchased and installed in homes, businesses, and communities throughout Australia.

While this may not sound alarming at first, it’s crucial to understand that the CellAED is designed with a shelf life of just 24 months. After this period, the entire device is expired & must be replaced.

Part of CellAED’s design relied on a subscription-based model: purchasers would be notified and receive a replacement device every 24 months. With the company now in administration, this service will cease to operate, leaving CellAED owners with devices that will soon become ineffective and obsolete.

Pulse Defibs Position

We want to assure our customers that Pulse Defibs has never distributed the CellAED®.

The devices we stock are carefully selected based on our strict criteria: ease of use, quality CPR feedback, adequate shock power & long-lasting consumables. All backed by robust warranties & future-proofed certification.

You can rest assured that we have done the research for you and only offer devices that meet these high standards.

Why Did CellAED Enter Voluntary Administration?

While specific details of CellAED’s situation are not publicly disclosed, companies typically enter voluntary administration due to cash flow issues, operational challenges, or difficulties in meeting current or upcoming device standards - particularly regulations that require clinical testing.

With Australia set to adopt the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR) framework by 2027, defibrillator manufacturers will soon face far stricter requirements for clinical evidence, documentation, and regulatory compliance before their devices can be supplied to the public.

At present, several defibrillators available in Australia do not hold EU MDR Certification. As the transition progresses, these brands will face significant challenges & could be pulled from the market, rendering the devices obsolete.

This shift further underscores the importance of choosing a proven, EU MDR–certified defibrillator to avoid the risk of your device becoming obsolete in the years ahead.

What to do if you own a CellAED

If you currently own a CellAED, you may be wondering what to do next. We recommend the following these steps:

  1. Check your device expiry date. Make sure your CellAED is still within its usable period - and do not rely on the manufacturer to notify you of its expiry, as this service may no longer be active.

  1. Explore alternative AEDs. It’s time to consider reputable brands that meet current and upcoming regulations and are backed by suppliers who prioritise customer support (not just an online shop). Contact the company by phone and talk to a real person to ensure your device and support are future-proofed.

  1. Understand the true cost of “cheaper” devices. While options like the CellAED may initially seem cost-effective, they often come with hidden expenses (replacement every 24 months, for example). Further to this, such devices may not be available in the years to come.

  2. Take advantage of Pulse Defibs "CellAED Trade In Offer" - get yourself a reliable, future-proofed defibrillator at a discounted price - see details below.
